Project QuoteTips on Kitchen Designing for Atlanta Residents

Most people spend years in a kitchen that was designed by someone else, for someone else.  Whether you’re an Atlanta native looking to incorporate a touch of city or deep south love, getting the chance to finally design your own kitchen can be an exhilarating experience.  With all the excitement in the air, however, it’s easy to get caught up in the dream, and loose track of practicality.  Here are a few tips to help you keep your new kitchen functional and beautiful.

Keep it workable. This is especially important if you’re dealing with a large area, or if you are expanding.  The stove, sink, and refrigerator should remain close, regardless of how much floor space you have.  Imagine trying to cook a down home Atlanta meal with the stove on one side of an island and the refrigerator on the other.  It won’t take long for you to resent your freshly installed island if you’re running around in circles every time you have to fetch something.  Take all the care in the world in making your new kitchen an oasis of beauty, but remember, it is a workspace, too.

Keep it durable.  Only you know what kind of torture your countertops and floors will encounter.  If you’re an enthusiastic chef or a mom of three and half, you may want to begin your shopping in the ‘made to last’ isles.  This doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice appearances or your design.  It’s just better to know that what you’re browsing through will stand up to the troops.  Remember, your countertops and floors are in this for the long run.  The least you can do is give them a fighting chance.

Keep it bright.  In no area of the house is good lighting more important than the kitchen.  The single most important function of a kitchen is to prepare food.  Cooking in the dark is hardly safe!  Be sure there is adequate lighting over the stove and anywhere you know you will be handling food.  Of course, mood lighting serves it’s own purposes too, but this type of lighting is optional.

One of the perks of living in Atlanta, is that you don’t have to tackle this type of project on your own if you don’t want to.  In Home Services is an Atlanta based company, specializing in kitchen and bathroom remodeling.
